Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust bring game-changing at-home heart checks to London’s communities
PocDoc, the UK’s leading digital diagnostics company, has partnered with Chelsea and Westminster, one of London’s largest NHS Trusts, to revolutionise cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention in the Capital.
The programme will bring at-home heart health checks directly to underserved communities, prioritising neighbourhoods in West London where residents face higher risks of CVD and barriers to accessing healthcare. It directly supports the Government’s 10-year Health Plan, and demonstrates the NHS’s three key shifts in action: prioritising community and home-based digital prevention, creating accessible neighbourhood health services, and increasing access to preventive care.
Through PocDoc’s smartphone-based ‘Healthy Heart Check’, local residents can now get a full picture of their heart health from the comfort of their own home. The test provides a detailed cholesterol and diabetes profile, body mass index, NHS heart age, and a ten-year risk assessment for heart attack or stroke - without creating more burden on GPs.
Results are delivered within minutes, and patients with concerning results can be guided seamlessly to the right care pathway in real time, while healthy individuals gain reassurance about their risk.
The potential impact is massive: NHS research shows that every digital health check can save 20 minutes of a GP’s time¹, and early detection could prevent up to 80% of CVD cases, equivalent to saving an estimated 136,000 lives in the UK each year².
Steve Roest, CEO and Co-Founder, at PocDoc said:
“Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust is an organisation very close to my heart - it’s where my dad received care after his stroke due to undiagnosed cardiovascular disease, and that experience inspires me to deliver PocDoc’s mission.
“Now, 25 years later, we’ve partnered with C&W to provide our technology designed to prevent the very health issues my dad faced - a full-circle moment and an opportunity to help other families avoid what mine went through.
“By rolling out this testing initiative, we’re making it easier for people to take preventative action on their heart health - at home, at work, or in their local community - helping to detect and prevent CVD early and ultimately save lives.”
